Description:

Hyatt Hotels Corporation seeks a self-motivated professional accountant to join its Finance organization as a manager on its Real Estate Accounting team.  The primary responsibilities of this position are: a) the oversight of four staff and senior accountants and their assigned processes within the Hyatt monthly and quarterly close process.  This includes ensuring proper review of journal entries and monthly and quarterly income statement and balance sheet account reconciliations across Hyatt’s owned and leased real estate entities. b) the oversight of the construction accounting process including but not limited to proper review of contracts, change orders, construction draws, capital expenditure cash flow reporting, capitalization of appropriate costs, cost segregations, construction system administration, and working in close coordination with the project management teams.  Additional responsibilities include the evaluation and development of the senior and staff accountants in their organization so that they may grow as professionals and elevate to higher levels of responsibility.  

Additionally, the manager will be expected to identify projects to improve the accounting processes for which they are responsible and manage teams to ensure the projects are successfully executed.  Finally, the Manager is expected to serve as a customer service point of contact for the Finance groups that are supported by the team and to proactively engage them in strategic discussions as to how to improve the level of accounting’s service to them as well as being an accounting resource for hotel directors of finance for our owned and leased portfolio.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Oversee the domestic owned hotels’ property, plant, and equipment accounting, including additions, retirements, disposals and depreciation.
  • Review of complex monthly journal entries, high risk balance sheet account reconciliations, and analytics over significant account balances prepared by staff and senior accountants.
  • Responsible for the coordination of accounting for acquisitions and dispositions; managing the statutory reporting for foreign entities; and managing the stand-alone audit report process for certain of our owned hotels.  
  • Review of quarterly external reporting schedules.
  • Field and resolve inquiries from management and external auditors.
  • Contribute to compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, including documentation of process areas and testing of key controls.
  • Monitor the performance of their team members against established goals and prepare and deliver candid feedback to them.
  • Identify and drive improvements to processes in their organization that will result in reductions to financial exposure and increases in efficiency.  
  • Continually assess and increase the level of service being provided to both internal and external customers.  
  • Participate in the interview and evaluation process for open positions on the team and evaluate and recommend existing team members for promotion.   
  • Work with the International Directors of Finance to understand the ownership results.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate accounting and/or public accounting, or equivalent business/financial role.  
  • Supervisory responsibilities or other experience that requires ensuring the quality of work delivered by other individuals. 
  • Previous experience with real estate and/or construction industry preferred.

Education

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Required:  None
  • Preferred:  Certified Public Accountant

Computer Skills Needed to Perform thisJob

  • Required:  Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Preferred:  Financial ERP systems (Oracle, Hyperion) and construction systems (PMWeb)
